Hi our edge has place up a large broadcasting mast in their backwards garden rattling near to our fence, it is rattling unsightly and is as broad as our house. Apparently they requirement thinking authorisation but don’t undergo if they hit applied. My concerns are if they crapper center in on our ring conversations on our walkabout phones. also is this chanceful as it is exclusive 20 feet from our concern and 3 feet from the inclose and would this change us if we desired to delude our concern in the future? The edge is rattling standoffish and hostile and we hit seen him be battleful at times. some advice would be adjuvant impart you.

No and No. The frequency for ham or cb radio is vastly different to house phones and mobile phones. No danger either, but certainly an eyesore and would make your house hard to sell.
Local council is first stop .. See what they say
talk to your local council and see if they can help, too see
if he has planning permission
Try leaving a not on their door or mailbox instead of talking face to face.
Check local planning applications to see if theres any permission been given or pending….though I doubt it as the neighbours are often contacted by the council to see if they object
well hope its a CB, a ham raido antenna you wont be able to do anything about, they can put up what ever antenna they want in case of an emergency, they are technically considered “public safety” or something along those lines, in case of an emergency hams often serve as communications (like on 9-11) a cb radio antenna has specifications, are very rarlely followed, and almost impossible to enforce…..
good luck though :-/
I don’t know why people find these things so unsightly. I could just as easily say your Sky minidish, TV aerial, air conditioner/heat pump, fence, clothes line, siding/roof colour was unsightly. It’s the commonality of these things that make them seem less unsightly to you. If everyone had ham or CB aerials, no one would think twice about it being unsightly.
To answer your questions, no they’re not going to use it to listen to your phones and no they’re not going to microwave you alive in your house. Fact of the matter is, if someone wanted to listen to your walkabout phones, they could do it with a scanner with a 6 inch aerial inside their house and don’t need a giant mast so look at all your other neighbours. They could have been listening in on you all this time but you’re suspicious of the ham/CB guy because he puts up a mast. You are also exposed to electromagnetic fields all the time regardless of whether the mast is there or not. You even said yourself you use walkabout phones. They’re transmitting right next to your head. You probably have a mobile phone too. They transmit even more power at a higher frequency thus yielding an even higher specific absorption rate of RF energy into human tissue yet no one thinks twice about that.
Let’s say your neighbour was approachable, friendly and nice. What would you say to him? I don’t like your mast and aerials can you please take them down? He likely went through significant expence and some trouble to put them up in the first place. It’s his hobby. You want to tell him to stop doing what he enjoys doing in his free time. What if he came to you and said, I’d very much like it if you discontinued using the internet because if I happen to look by your window at night there’s a glow from your computer monitor and I find it very unsightly. Sounds quite ridiculous doesn’t it?
It’s really quite the shame that we are forced to live with things like deed restrictions and covenants that dictate things like whether you can put up a shed or not, put up a mast, a flag pole even, the colour of your house, in some areas the square footage of brick or stone you must have. It’s worse than a communist country. People think they’re protecting property values but I know if I had a choice of living in an area with restrictions like that and uptight neighbours versus one without, guess where I’m going to choose. Besides, I seriously doubt that a neighbour’s mast is going to be a deal breaker on a house. If you don’t want anything 20 feet from your house, move to the country.
Ham radio operators will defend themselves stating that they serve the community, are the most reliable form of communication in an emergency, etc, and it’s all true, but the reason that we’re so adamant about it isn’t just for that, but because we love our hobby. It’s something we truly enjoy doing. It’s something we look forward when we come home from work and on the weekends. Also, it’s somewhat of a dying hobby. Many are getting old and dying and many young fellows are more interested in things like the internet and computers who would have gotten into radio otherwise. When foolishness like this abounds it only serves to further impede the hobby’s growth and that’s just sad. We do our very best to ensure that we do not interfere with anything, that we keep our equipment in good repair and that we don’t infringe on others’ rights. Perhaps it would serve you some good to take a minute to learn about our hobby. It’s somewhat obvious that you are not very informed about it when you think we’re all about phone eavesdropping and nuking people. We’re every day people just like you, young and old, male and female, all around the world. Having said that, my advice to you…is to please just live with it. Is it really doing you any harm?
